10-Run Late Explosion Fuels Shutout over Mariners in Front of Record-Breaking Crowd

Box Score

FINDLAY, OH — For six innings on Sunday afternoon, the Flag City Sluggers and Grand Lake Mariners locked horns in a tense, scoreless gridlock. Then, the floodgates didn't just open—they burst completely off their hinges in front of a historic home crowd.

Playing before a record-breaking 732 fans, the largest crowd in team history, the Sluggers exploded for 10 late runs over their final two turns at the plate to overwhelm the Mariners 10-0. The dominant victory secured a weekend split with Grand Lake and pushed Flag City’s record to 9-6 on the season.

The early story was a magnificent, combined two-hitter by the Flag City pitching staff, which kept the energetic home crowd on its feet. Starter Grady Mason set a strong tone, throwing four innings of two-hit ball while punching out four.

Leo McEnulty (2-0) entered in the fifth and took complete control. The right-hander was flawless, firing 4.0 innings of no-hit, scoreless relief to completely paralyze the Grand Lake (9-5) offense and keep the game knotted at 0-0.

Fed by the energy of the historic crowd, the Sluggers broke the stalemate in devastating fashion in the bottom of the seventh. Flag City sent batter after batter to the plate, tagging three different Mariners relievers for seven runs. Miles Mitchell ignited the frame with a triple and later scored, while Drew Tajblik and Trenten Smith dropped clutch run-scoring hits to pull Flag City ahead 7-0.

The Sluggers kept their feet on the gas in the bottom of the eighth to end the game early via the run rule. With the bases loaded, shortstop Brett Reed delivered the final, definitive blow, cranking a bases-clearing double to drive in three of his game-high four RBIs and finalize the 10-0 shutout.
