MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Flag City Sluggers travels to Celina taking down the hosting Grand Lake Mariners 4-1 in the Sunday afternoon matinee.

The Sluggers (16-16) take the four-game series winning three out of four during the weekend set. 

Flag City broke a 1-1 tie when Chris Franks (Ashland University) lead off the second inning with a solo home run. The Sluggers added another run in the inning when Trey Gardner (Three Rivers CC) scored on a sacrifice fly by Brett Reed (Lawrence University). 

The Sluggers added on a run in the ninth inning when Reed delivered an RBI-double scoring pinch runner Ryan Miezin (Lincoln Trail College). 

Reed had quite a day for the Sluggers going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, sacrifice fly, stolen base and two RBIs.

The Mariners (10-23) scored its only run in the first inning when Jake Lopez’s (University of Scranton transfer) RBI-groundout allowed A.J. Klubeck (Palomar College) to score from third base.

Hayden Gilmore (Three Rivers CC) pitched two innings in relief for the Sluggers earning his first victory of the summer. Cooper Ashby (Redlands CC) pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save of the season. 

Flag City travels to Hamilton on Tuesday beginning a three-game series against the Joes at Foundation Field. The Mariners head north of the state border on Tuesday taking on the Michigan Monarchs at Hillsdale College.
