10-0 Run-Rule Shutout: 15-Hit Explosion Propels Sluggers Past Scouts
FINDLAY, OH — The Flag City Sluggers left no room for drama on Wednesday night, using 15-hits to run-rule the Xenia Scouts 10-0 in seven innings at Fifth Third Field.
In front of a home crowd of 422 fans, the Sluggers (11-6) dominated from the opening pitch to secure a two-game series sweep over the Scouts.
The offense got to work in the bottom of the first inning. Mickey Anderson opened the scoring with a clutch two-run double, followed shortly by a Jovanny Skrelja RBI single to give Flag City a quick 3-0 lead.
The Sluggers kept adding on. William Barnes crushed a two-run home run in the fourth inning to extend the lead, and Miles Mitchell delivered a two-run single in the fifth to make it 9-0. Up 9-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Mickey Anderson ended the game early via the run rule by lining his second double of the night to drive in the 10th and final run.
While the bats piled up runs, the Flag City pitching staff combined for a brilliant two-hitter. Starter Grady Mason struck out four over 2.2 hitless frames before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Reliever Jackson Urenovitch (3-1) earned the win, throwing 2.1 innings of one-hit relief, and Julius Robichaud covered the final two scoreless innings to complete the shutout.
